Overwhelmed by the hectic activity, speed and stress that modern life in our globalized world brings, we think so many things are necessary that are really not necessary: unbelievably high cruising speeds, head turning fuel mileage, heavy yet dynamic superstructures, comfort and safety thrown aside for other features....
But there’s a yacht manufacturer and a yacht that is dedicated to those who would rather give up all “normal” rights of life and simply sail with loved ones in an elegant and comfortable environment. That prestigious manufacturer is Linssen and the yacht is the new Gran Sturdy 470: “Pure lifestyle experience” runs this Dutch builder’s motto, to emphasize the difference of their yachts from those of the competition.
The new Gran Sturdy 470 is a nearly fifteen meter displacement craft with stout and spirited lines, non-toxic antifouling, modest and economical engines, and comfortable and pleasant interiors that place the “human” at the center of the system. The exterior and hull lines are different from those of Mediterranean cruisers--they are decisive and personal, and they are inspired by the classic tradition of northern seas fishing vessels, that must satisfy the widest range of sturdiness and reliability to challenge with utter calm the difficult conditions those seas impose. But the Gran Study 470 is not a yacht designed only for the upper latitudes, where the heat of summer only lasts a few weeks: large open-air spaces, the chance to enjoy a beautiful raised cockpit and spacious deckhouse, demonstrate how this yacht is perfectly adapted to the Mediterranean. You can walk from bow to stern without trouble, even during choppy seas, since the yacht handles with great stability and all walkways are protected by high and sturdy handrails. The raised read cockpit is unusual by Italian standards, but shows its value instantly after just a few hours on board the Gran Sturdy. The area enjoys privacy and allows you to enjoy a broad view of the sea while docked. The interiors make use of the same philosophy and offer very warm and inviting rooms both in winter and summer, opening a new season for all those that must leave aside their yachts during cold weather. Two options of layouts guarantee six full beds in comfortable and enjoyable rooms even to a large crew. The layout options differ by the type of beds in the cabins, single or double at stern and bow.
Amidships are two common rooms optimally split by a small ladder. One functions as a lounge, and one is dedicated to a dining room and kitchen area. The well-furnished lounge features ample use of wood and is equipped with a sofa, dining table and bar, the dining area has a convertible dinette, central table and U-shaped kitchen, stocked with all the essentials. Single or dual engine setups in the engine room. The experience and professionalism of the craft’s importer Giaroli recommends the installation of two German diesel motors, the famous Vetus Deutz, model DTA44, with 104 kW four-cylinder (140 horsepower), a power rating achieved at only 2,500 revs. In addition to their well-known reliability and economical maintenance costs, these motors can drive the boat at 8.5 knots cruising speed and 9.5 knots maximum speed, in excellent comfort, silence and savings.
